I’m really excited to be able to offer telehealth or online dietician appointments. I started seeing all my clients over Zoom as a result of our COVID lockdown and because it works so well I love the idea of being able to continue to offer this type of appointment into the future.
Here are some of the things that my clients love about seeing
An Online Nutritionist:
- ‘It was convenient and can be done in the comfort of your own home or car or office’
- ‘Less time wasted in travel or sitting in waiting rooms’
- ‘It’s private’
- ‘Given I have had experience on Zoom over COVID, I had no trouble establishing a connection with Lisa online’
- ‘The dietician has access to my pantry – I can show food labels and ask questions about specific foods and anything else that comes up in conversation, and everything I need is right there with me at home.’
- ‘You don’t need to be sitting in the same room as someone to learn about a health condition, I learnt all I needed to know about managing my diabetes in an online consultation.’
- ‘If you really like the philosophy of a dietitian who practises in another state…you can still see them!’
You may have concerns about how will I keep track of progress if I can’t weigh you? How will I monitor your progress?
If you choose to weigh or measure yourself that is one way to measure success in the short term. For a lot of my clients though, the scales are the enemy and can often put you off track. I like to work with other measures of success. The progress that gets me very really excited is when you start talking about learning to manage unhelpful habits, when you demonstrate evidence of forward planning and helpful self-talk that lets you get a handle on emotional and stress eating, when you start to be able to make decisions about food that you didn’t think you’d ever be able to make …that’s the progress that really counts.

You may feel you won’t have to be honest if we aren’t face to face and all I can see is your head!
I appreciate that a lot of things that a dietitian asks you to report can be quite personal and you may feel that you are being judged and that sometimes it’s hard to be honest. My aim is to always create an environment that is non-judgemental and that you will feel safe enough to be honest and know that I’m only asking to gain clarity of the situation not to make you feel bad about yourself. My goal is to work with you to help sort out the problems you have with sustaining healthy eating in order to improve your health or weight, I can’t help as effectively if I don’t know what the issues are, but I will always believe what you are telling me, you get to choose how honest you are comfortable to be.
You might be wondering how motivated you will be if you aren’t getting on my scales to check progress and we aren’t face to face?
If you are relying only on the scales for motivation, that might explain your frustration and lack of results you have been after. Using the scales and restrictive diets or meal plans don’t work because they don’t get to the bottom of your habits.
I don’t like to rely on external motivators, like weight, as they tend to be unsustainable. My aim is to tap into your internal or intrinsic motivation which is much more effective and lasting and I can do this over Zoom.

You may be relying on me for accountability and wondering if you get the same experience from an online dietitian consultation?
Showing up for each session makes you accountable to me. Being honest with yourself and trusting in the process and the things that I am encouraging you to learn about yourself is the way to get accountability not only for the duration of our appointments together but for the long term, which is what matters most.
